Being a small team, it can take us 2-5 business days to have your order packed and shipped. As soon as we ship your order, you will receive an email with tracking info. Our crystal candy is made using Agar Agar powder which is a gelatinous substance derived from red seaweed. This makes our delicious crystals vegan given that the agar agar contains no animal products.
Our crystals also contain granulated sugar as well as various colours and flavourings.
While the crystals are gluten free, we are not a GF registered kitchen. However, as we only prepare crystal candy in our warehouse, we are confident that there is no cross-contamination.
Some of our crystals may have sharp edges, so please proceed with caution if sharing with young children.

Our Crystal Candy Peonies have that signature crackly outer shell that gives way to a soft jelly centre.
They’re a little bigger than our regular candies which means they have more of that delectable jelly in their centre.
Handmade in small batches
Every single Peony is poured by hand and air-dried for 10 days to get that perfect crunch.
No shortcuts, no mass production, just the same process we’ve used from day one, scaled with care.
Vegan, Gluten-Free & made for everyone
Made with agar agar (not gelatine), our Peonies are vegan, gluten-free, and enjoyed by a wide range of our customers.

Founder's Note - From Sarah
I never planned to start a candy brand.. it kind of just happened.
Back in 2020, when the world had shut down, I was just a mum in my kitchen experimenting and trying to keep that creative spark alive. That’s when I discovered Japanese crystal candy. What immediately caught my attention was how beautiful it looked — these little sparkling pieces that almost looked like edible jewels. I just had to try making them for myself.
What started as a simple kitchen experiment slowly grew into something much bigger. Over time, more and more people discovered Bak’d and fell in love with crystal candy just like we had. Somewhere along the way, it stopped being just about candy and started becoming a community of people who share in the joy, the colour and the sparkle.
If you choose to purchase from Bak’d, please know that we are forever grateful. Never in my wildest dreams did I think a tiny kitchen project would grow into Australia’s biggest crystal candy brand — or more importantly, a beautiful community of people who have supported us from day one.
