Introducing Ben’s Gems: Australia’s First Chocolate-Covered Crystal Candy 🍫✨
At Bak’d, we’ve always dreamed big. And sometimes, a spark of an idea can stick with you long enough that you just know it’s meant to be brought to life. That’s exactly how Ben’s Gems came to be.
From the very first time Ben created our beloved Ben's Gems, he had a vision (you can watch it here). A dream of one day dipping those magical, crunchy jewels into silky, rich chocolate. A wild idea? Maybe. But if you know Ben, you know he’s not one to let a good idea go. That vision quietly lingered in the background… until it finally demanded to be brought to life.
A couple of months ago, we decided to experiment. As part of a fun content day, we coated our popular Crystal Stix in chocolate just to see what it would look like, and more importantly… what it would taste like. And the moment Ben tried one, everything changed.
The crunch of the crystal. The smooth, creamy chocolate. The contrast was unreal. It was sweet, it was crunchy, it was decadent, it was everything he imagined it could be, and more.
So, Ben went on a mission to make this dream a reality. He started researching how to coat our delicate, handmade crystal candies in premium chocolate without compromising their signature crunch. That’s when fate stepped in. We connected with a fellow small business right here in Melbourne – a husband and wife duo (just like us!) who run a beautiful business called Coated.
Coated kindly took on our little idea and created a sample batch of chocolate-coated Ben’s Gems… and the result? Absolute perfection. ✨ We were blown away. They not only preserved the texture and sparkle of the crystals, but they elevated it with their premium chocolate coating.
So now, we’re beyond excited to officially say: Choc-covered Ben’s Gems are happening!
Even more special? We’ve been taking you, our amazing community, along for the ride. You helped us vote on packaging designs (thank you!), and we’ve been loving sharing sneak peeks behind the scenes as this magical product comes to life.
Where we’re at now:
✅ The Ben’s Gems have all been made by hand and are currently drying
✅ Soon, they'll be taken to Coated to be covered in their premium chocolate
✅ Our beautiful Black Luxe boxes are currently in production and will be shipped to us shortly.
✅ Launch is just a couple of weeks away!
We’re calling this an Australian first - Chocolate-Covered Crystal Candy has never been done before on this scale. And we are so proud to be creating something so unique, so special, and so delicious, right here in Melbourne.
